  • Play-Doh Cookies

    These cookies are so pretty!

They were hard to make at first, but once I got used to it, it was pretty fun. They really look like play-doh!  What kid wouldn't love these?
  • Advice: Baby Dedication Gifts?

One of my best friends has invited me and my husband to be present during the ceremony where she and her husband will dedicate their daughter to God. I am extremely honored that they want us to share this with them. I was talking with another friend who brought up the idea of gifts. As an "Aunt", I feel like I should do something but I'm not sure what is appropriate.

Did friends and family give gifts when your children were dedicated or baptized? What would you suggest I give or suggest I avoid?

  • Alert: Maclaren Recalls 1 Million Strollers!

Guest post by Baby Bump Blog

Maclaren has announced that anyone who bought a stroller from the company in the last 10 years will need to contact the company to order special hinge covers, due to 12 reported cases of fingertip amputations because of children sticking their fingers in the stroller's hinges.

We hope Spice Girl Geri Halliwell got the memo (luckily, it looks like little Bluebell's fingers are out of harm's way)!

  • Dealing with Speech issues and IEP

Dealing with Speech issues and IEP

My son C is in Kindergarten. I received a call earlier this week about concern about him having speech problems. I had never really thought about it. I can understand him. When I sat and thought about it though I realized, yes, he does have speech issues. There are a lot of people who can not understand him. I asked him if his teacher always understands him. He said no. I asked him what happens then. He said he says it again :)

He is soo cute. I really don't mind letting them test him for speech issues and getting the help so that he can be understood easier. The papers came to fill out to let them test him.

It came with a huge thing about parents rights and rights when it comes to IEP's. (IEP=Individualized Education Program) and also all about IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act). Talk about a lot to read.

At first I was like why all this stuff. C isn't disabled. He has educational issues but I was thinking why C? I was even thinking that when I started writing this. Then it hit me! Not being able to be understood by your teachers and peers is a big disability. Yes, he maybe able to walk. He may be able to hear. But many many people can't understand him. That is a major disability. Hopefully this disability will be able to be fixed (Most speech issues can be) and he will be able to go and make more friends (something that is hard to do when many people can't understand what you are saying) and do the things that he wants to do.

What do you think of when you hear disability? Have you or your child experienced speech problems?
  • Trusting People With Our Children -What Do We Do When They Fail Us?

I was reading a story about 6-year old autistic child who was never dropped off by his bus driver. The child  had fallen asleep during the bus ride and was left in his Schultz Transportation bus in a depot lot all alone a few miles from her house.
The bus driver has been fired for the incident. Here is the article.

As a father of three school age children I have a little peace of mind because if one of my children would not get off the bus or one of them was asleep, the others would make sure that the child would get off. But my thoughts go to what would happen if I only had one child. Then how would I feel? More Here...

    My Children Are My Teachers

These are the things I have learned from my kids:

    1. Livvy's squeaky little voice is probably enough to make other people's ears bleed, but to me it fills my heart and and rocks my world!
    2. No matter how hard I try to parent my kids and guide them, all they are learning from me is what they do not want to become.
    3. It hurts to hear my five year old yell out "I hate you!", but it is even harder to hear her say "You don't even love me." More Here...

  • What Are Your Disney Favorites?

I was introduced to the magical world of Walt Disney as a young child. I would devour all the Disney tales in whatever form I could get them. I loved the books and the movies, the clothes and the games, anything associated with Disney was always a big hit in out house. Growing up in a family of girls, be it my sister or my cousins we always had princess parties dressing up and enacting the movies. Our favorite was Cinderella, and even as little girls we dreamed about the charming prince that would sweep us off our feet and carry us away on his horse. We hated the wicked stepmother in Snow White with a vengeance and cried for the plight of Rapunzel. More Here...

  • Carseat vs. Booster: When To Switch and More Importantly, Why

    Guest Post By Supermom Central

Sometimes I think we ask ourselves the wrong questions as parents. Because we're convinced that following all the finite rules handed down to us will guarantee our children's safety, we miss the bigger picture and end up only doing the bare minimum to protect our little ones.

The Car seat vs. Booster topic is a prime example. Did you know that each state has specific laws regulating how old, how tall and how heavy your kiddo should be before making the switch? Just because the seat you're purchasing claims that it is made for 30-100 lbs does not mean that you can safely switch your hefty 2 1/2 yr. old as soon as he hits the big 3-0. There are many other factors that go into the decision to graduate - some of them are even specific to your individual child!

  • My Little Imp Asks "Can I have a pet brother?"

I had some bad experiences with pets as a young child. After our love bird died and a cat that ran away and had me pushing away my food for a while, I grew up without a pet. However my 5 yr old son seemed to be wanting a pet. He has been negotiating with me for getting a dog. I already seem to be juggling too much (no super mom here!! sigh!) and have my hands full, I really do not want the responsibility of raising a dog right now. So I told him if he wanted he could have a fish tank now, and a dog when he grew up a little more. Then he kept worrying me if he could just go take the neighbor's puppy. When that request was rejected too, the little imp got thinking!

Soon he was trying a different tact. Mommy lets buy a baby! More Here...
